When to visit Spain?

So you have been studying some basic Spanish for the past 2 months and you want to put it into practice. If you are planning to go to Spain during the months of July and August probably you are making a bad decision.

Here is why:

Everywhere is crowded and full of tourists.
Prices of hotels are almost double compared to low season.

Of course if that is the only period in which you can take a wonderful holiday you will have to cope with it. But if you have a choice, when is best to travel? If your plan is to enjoy the beach with a warm weather or to explore Spain with a nice weather at affordable costs the best dates are:

15th of May to 15th of June.
1st of September to 20th September.

If you don’t plan to take a swim into the sea, the most quiet period to travel with good weather is May. In may the water of the sea is a bit cold, so if you are planning to enjoy wonderful beach days its best to go in September.

What are the handicaps of not going in July and August? Well its true that some of the most famous festivals like San Fermín or la Tomatina happen in July and August but there are other festivals not as famous taking place in May and September. For example “La Mercè” in Barcelona which happens around the 20th to 24th of September.

For example if you want to explore a beautiful island like Menorca enjoying the good weather while driving a car in beautiful and deserted small roads and feel like another local you definitely should go in May!
